Event Overview
The Cape Classic is a three-day, fully supported road cycling tour set in the picturesque town of Montagu, Western Cape, along the renowned Route 62. With a limit of 100 riders, participants can enjoy stunning landscapes, iconic mountain passes, and a protected peloton experience. The event reached full capacity for the first time in 2025, consistently attracting over 40% female participants each year.

Route Details
Start venue: Mimosa Lodge, Montagu
- Day 1 (Friday) – The Koo Valley: Out and Back
100 km • 1,500 m climbing
Ride through the stunning Koo Valley, tackling Burger's Pass and Rooihoogte Pass. A water point is available at Oupa Battse Winkel between the passes. The turning point is at the Rooihoogte summit, 1,234 m high. Descents are controlled for safety. The day concludes at Blu Vines with a light lunch and Day 1 jersey presentations.
- 1. Burger's Pass – KOM/QOM, 7 km, starts at 25 km, average gradient 6%, max 12%
- 2. Koo Karoo TT – Time Trial, 7.54 km, standing start, 30s intervals, starts at 32 km
- 3. Rooihoogte Pass – KOM/QOM, 8 km, starts at 40 km, average gradient 5%, max 10%, summit 1,234 m

- Day 2 (Saturday) – The Tradouws
162 km • 1,870 m climbing (longest stage)
Cycle through Cogmans Kloof Pass towards Swellendam, joining the Old Mutual Double Century route over Bakoondhoogte Pass. The peloton splits into fast and tour pace groups. A water point is located at The Cheese Shop. Riders receive a traffic escort through Swellendam before ascending the breathtaking Tradouw Pass. Lunch is served at Diesel & Creme in Barrydale, with the final climb being Op de Tradouw back to Montagu.
- 4. R60 Rollers – Green Jersey, 13 km, starts at 36 km, ends at The Cheese Shop, ladies start behind men
- 5. Tradouw Pass – KOM/QOM, 5 km, starts at the foot of Tradouw Pass, ends at water point
- Day 3 (Sunday) – Breede River Cruise
78 km • 480 m climbing
Depart Montagu towards Arabella wine farm, looping around the Breede River. The route is fast, flat, and enjoyable. The peloton splits into men's and women's groups at the steel bridge, with a water point at Bonnievale Cellars. The ride concludes through Bonnievale & Ashton, finishing at Die Kloof Padstal with a champagne reception, lunch, and final prize giving.
- 6. Bonnievale Dash – Green Jersey, 14 km, starts at 23 km after the steel bridge, fast & flat, ladies start behind men
Points System
All segments: 1st = 10 pts • 2nd = 7 pts • 3rd = 5 pts • 4th = 3 pts • 5th = 1 pt (both male & female)
- Climbers Jersey: Awarded to the first 5 men and women at KOM/QOM finishes across 3 segments (Day 1 & 2)
- Time Trial Trophy: Awarded to the fastest man and woman in the TT segment (Day 1)
- Green Jersey: Awarded to the first 5 men and women at flagged sections across 2 segments (Day 2 & 3)
- Overall Winners Trophy: Awarded to the rider with the most accumulated points across all 6 segments
Tiebreaker: The fastest TT time determines the winner.
