Rooster Trails

Experience the Rooster Trails at Eight Bells Mountain Inn, where you can explore six distinct walking trails across their expansive 400-acre property. Each trail is clearly marked with color-coded signs for easy navigation.

The Farm Dam trail is a 1.3 km walk that takes approximately 30 minutes and is marked in blue. The Hamlet Hobble, marked in green, is a 1.7 km trail that takes about 45 minutes. The River Rumble, which we'll be tackling on the event day, is a 1.9 km trail taking around 60 minutes and is marked in yellow. Cedar Climb, marked in orange, is a 3.9 km trail that requires about 2 hours. The Ridge Lookout, which we'll also be attempting, is a 4.0 km trail taking 2 hours and is marked with brown and red. Finally, the Protea Hill trail, marked in red, is a 4.2 km walk that can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace over half a day.

For our event, we plan to take on both the Ridge Lookout and the River Rumble trails. Participants have the option to return to the rest area after completing the first loop.

Here is a list of essential items to bring for all hikes:

• Suitable lightweight hydration pack, backpack, or hip pouch
• Hydration or bottled water
• Sunscreen
• Hat or headgear
• Non-slip shoes
• Snacks
• Lightweight windproof jacket
• Fleece or midlayer depending on the weather
• Personal emergency items, such as bandages, small petroleum jelly, blister plasters, etc.

Optional items include fingerless gloves, hiking poles, a beanie, buffs, and sunglasses.

We will meet at Eight Bells, located at the base of Robinson Pass on the R328 between Mossel Bay (35 km) and Oudtshoorn (50 km), in Ruiterbos, Mossel Bay. You can find the location on the map here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7tCoFNQqpRsHTXRe8.

The hike will commence at 08:00. After the hike, you are welcome to join us for optional coffee or lunch, which will be held on the Indoor Sun Patio, Garden Terrace, or in the charming Tea Garden, depending on the weather.
